For most EV owners, home charging is the easiest way to keep the vehicle ready for daily use. There is no special trip to a public charger—the vehicle charges while already parked at home.
Where a suitable electricity tariff is available, charging may be scheduled for lower-cost hours. The actual cost depends on the tariff, vehicle, and selected charging power.
An EV charger is a significant electrical load that may operate for several hours. It needs a dedicated circuit designed for the required current. Cable size, circuit breaker, RCD, grounding, and protection devices must suit the charger and supply.
A proper installation begins with checking the electrical panel, cable route, connection point, and environment according to manufacturer requirements and applicable regulations.
Not every vehicle and property can use the same charging power. AC chargers are available at several power levels, but actual charging is limited by the vehicle's onboard charger and available property capacity.
Before installation, the supply type, main rating, distance from the panel, and possible need for load management should be checked.
For shared parking, the cable route, power source, electricity metering, and passage through common areas should be planned in advance. Coordination with a building committee or management company may be required.
Good planning keeps the installation neat, protects shared areas, and can make future expansion easier.
The price depends on site conditions, not only the charger model. Main factors include cable distance and size, conduit or cable tray, trenching, drilling, panel modifications, and protection devices.
Pedestal installation, a concrete base, work at height, or routing between floors may also affect cost. Clear photos of the panel, parking space, and route make the initial estimate more accurate.
