BYD Smart Wallbox
Connected AC charger for home and workplace
According to BYD’s official UK/European product page, the Smart Wallbox is offered with charging capacity from 7.4 kW to 22 kW. It uses a fixed 5-metre charging cable, measures 378 × 221 × 114 mm and weighs no more than 3.8 kg.
Connected control and access
BYD app, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth and RFID
The charger includes 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi and Bluetooth 5.0. Through the BYD app, users can start or stop charging, adjust the charging current, view progress, schedule charging for off-peak hours and review charging history. Secure start options include Plug & Charge, RFID card and app control. BYD also states that over-the-air updates are supported.
AC charging for BYD vehicles
Type 2 is the practical choice for everyday charging
BYD Israel recommends a dedicated Type 2 home charging station. The actual charging rate is limited by the vehicle’s onboard AC charger, the station setting and the available electrical supply. A 22 kW wallbox does not make every vehicle charge at 22 kW.
DC fast charging
For short stops and long-distance travel
At a DC station, the station supplies controlled direct current to the traction battery, bypassing the vehicle’s onboard AC charger. Maximum charging power and charging time vary by BYD model, battery temperature, state of charge and the station itself.
BYD Megawatt Flash Charging
Future high-power technology — not a home wallbox
BYD announced its Super e‑Platform with a 1000 V architecture, up to 1000 A and vehicle charging power of 1 MW. BYD also presented a liquid-cooled charging terminal with output up to 1360 kW and stated that it planned more than 4,000 Flash Charging stations in China.
Which BYD charging solution fits the site?
Smart Wallbox / Type 2 AC
The normal solution for overnight and workplace charging. It is quieter, simpler and usually much less demanding on the electrical connection than DC charging.
Public DC charging
Used when charging time is short. The installation is an infrastructure project with significantly higher power, protection, cooling and utility requirements.
Quick comparison
| Solution | Current | Official power / capability | Typical use | Main point |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BYD Smart Wallbox | AC | 7.4–22 kW | Home / workplace | Fixed 5 m cable and smart control |
| Type 2 charging | AC | Limited by vehicle and site | Home / public AC | Regular daily charging |
| Public fast charger | DC | Depends on vehicle and station | Roadside / commercial site | Fast energy transfer |
| Megawatt Flash Charging | DC | Vehicle up to 1000 kW; terminal up to 1360 kW | China / compatible future platform | Not a home charger |
What should be checked before installing a BYD charger?
- Exact BYD model and its maximum AC charging rate
- Available single-phase or three-phase supply and main connection size
- Cable route, length, conductor size, voltage drop and heat conditions
- Circuit breaker, residual-current protection, earthing and surge protection
- Wi‑Fi/Bluetooth coverage and preferred access method
