chargecloud is integrating Hubject’s PKI into its charging-management platform so compatible AC charging points can authenticate vehicles automatically using ISO 15118-2.

Key facts

  • The integration targets Plug & Charge on compatible AC charging infrastructure.
  • A compatible vehicle can authenticate without an app, RFID card or screen interaction.
  • The solution requires ISO 15118-2-compatible hardware, a suitable vehicle and a valid Plug & Charge contract.

Context and details

Plug & Charge has been more common on DC fast chargers. The new integration focuses on AC locations such as fleet depots, company car parks, municipal networks and retail sites.

chargecloud says the feature will be made available to CPO customers through its operating system, while Hubject provides the public-key infrastructure and trust framework.

Why it matters

Making automated authentication available on AC charging could simplify repeat charging for fleets, workplaces and other places where the same vehicles connect every day.

What it means in practice

The feature is not universal: both the charger and vehicle must support the required ISO 15118 implementation, and the mobility provider must provision a valid contract certificate.

What to check before making a practical decision

Before specifying Plug & Charge for an installation, confirm compatibility across charger hardware, backend, vehicle model and e-mobility service provider.
